Admission officers at most of the top schools like Caltech, Johns Hopkins and Cornell have a certain standard set for the college essays they want to receive. Firstly, whatever you write in your essay should be different than what you have already mentioned in other parts of your application. Secondly, the committee wants to know you as an individual which means you need to write more about your personality and character; how you stand out.
