In my college applications for UCLA, UC Berkeley and Johns Hopkins, can I include negative experiences in my application?

All the top schools like UCLA, UC Berkeley and Johns Hopkins want students who have the ability to overcome their problems. This means that an applicant should mention a negative experience because the experience would mention a problem of some sort. This would give you a chance to explain how you overcame that problem, physically or psychologically; something that the admission committee is looking for in the applications.
